Q: What do you do with "spent" batteries?

A: When you return from your expedition with depleted batteries the best way to dispose of them is in Salt water. Take a bucket or even a cardboard carton with a trash bag, mix up some rock salt and water, one pound to five gallons - dump the batteries into it and leave them for a week. Drain the batteries, throw the water out (not toxic, salt water) and put the batteries in the trash. The purpose is to gently drain off ALL remaining electricity, so there's no danger of sparking and fire if the batteries get crushed. Running time depends on the energy needs of your equipment and the battery's capacity. Battery capacity is specified in Watt-hours (W/has).Watt-hours is simply the product of battery voltage, times 1 Amp, times capacity in hours, at nominal temperatures.

The 60 Watt-hr model Li-77:
Rated at 1 Amp for 8 hours at 7.5 volts: 1 x 8 x 7.5 = 60 Watt hours. Knowing this battery's capacity (60 Watt-hr), you can calculate the battery's theoretical lifetime by dividing the cameras power draw (in Watts, taken from the equipment's specs) into the battery's Watt-hr rating. A 5 watt camera, powered from a 60 Watt-hr Li-77, would operate for about 12 hours.

Li-77 Mini:
Running time is more than doubled when batteries are grouped in parallel for increased efficiency. Don't hesitate to call when you have questions on application. Much of our
work is with unique applications. Shipping regulations have eased and our products are no longer transported as hazardous materials.
